- inspiring the Tri-City autorities with ideas that are frequently fully implemented, e.g. the Faculty of Architecture student’s design of bus shelters in Gdansk Letnica, the site of the Euro 2012 Baltic Arena Stadium
- acquiring patents, e.g. for the PeltiCold portable refrigerating device designed by Faculty of Mechanical Engineering students, which may, for instance, serve as an open drinks bar
- and constructing unconventional machines, e.g. SOLAR, the first fully ecological, solar powered boat in Poland
staff
- undertaking R&D initiatives. They have created the Pomeranian ICT Cluster, serving almost 50 the region’s telecommunications, IT and electronics companies as well as educational institutions and the Gdansk City authorities
- working on projects of key national importance, e.g. by co-creating the European Road Safety Atlas
- implementing inventions, e.g. available on the market since 2009: the LipMouse – allowing users to operate computers with just their lips and tongue; and the Smart Pen – a therapy enhancing tool in the treatment of dyslexia and dysgraphia
- receiving awards for inventions at national and international fairs, collecting 19 awards at the Technicon Innowacje 2009 Fair and the gold medal from the 108th International Invention Exhibition Concours Lepine in Paris
graduates
- building the PGE Arena, the Gdansk Euro 2012 stadium, whose design team members predominantly come from GUT and are headed by a graduate of the GUT Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering
- designing the world famous IVONA speech synthesizer, which in 2006, 2007 and 2009 received the highest scores at the Blizzard Challenge in Edinburgh
- setting up companies known in Poland and the world, e.g. realm of new technologies Young Digital Planet SA, the Wirtualna Polska (Virtual Poland) web portal or LPP SA, the owner of 6 popular clothing brands
- having ideas worth milions! A milion dollars was won by the mechanics engineer Janusz Liberkowski at the ABC Television American Inventor competition for his Anecia Safety Capsule (a safer car seat), which gave him the title of the best inventor in the USA
