The Department of Marine Civil Engineering prepares specialists in the field of harbour, offshore and coastal engineering structures. The research topics in the Department concern above all the problems of interaction between the marine environment (wind waves, sea currents, ice etc.), engineering structures (breakwaters, quays, offshore platform, etc.) and bottom soil. Special attention is given to:

• research, design , modernization and reconstruction of harbour engineering structures (breakwaters, quays, dolphins, piers, jetties, etc.)
• research, design and construction of shipyard engineering structures (dry docks, slipways lifts, etc.)
• research of the hydrodynamic loads stability of offshore pipelines, platforms, mooring and unloading buoys,
• design of coastal engineering structures and investigation on the effectiveness of interactions between various coastal protection systems (groins, sea wall, etc.)
• dredging works in harbour basins and access water lanes
• port and harbour planning,
• protection of harbour bottom against ship propeller jets
• investigation on harbour sediment contamination
