Supplementary courses at different levels for those who wish to widen and/or
deepen their knowledge/qualificationsApart from the above mentioned courses
held in Polish language, there are also courses for foreign students in English
language:–; 2-year, post-graduate course leading to MSc degree in Naval Architecture
and Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering –; 3 to 4-year individual studies
leading to PhD degree in chosen topics of the a/m fields of engineering. The
MSc curriculum includes about 3800 hours of lectures, tutorials, seminars,
laboratory classes and design projects. The MSc studies last 5.5 years (11
semesters). The first two years (semesters 1 to 4) are devoted to general
subjects, i.e. mathematics, physics, mechanics, material science, computer
science etc., but also philosophy, economics and foreign languages. The next
two years (semesters 5 to 8) include main line subjects, i.e. Naval Architecture
and Shipbuilding, Ship Power Plants, Ship Deck Equipment and Ship Systems
all well as Yachts and Small Ships. During the 9th semester students deepen
their knowledge in specialisation subjects related to MSc thesis, whilst the
10th semester is devoted to practical training onboard a ship at sea. During
the 11th semester students have to prepare their MSc thesis and pass the final
examination to be awarded MSc degree. Especially talented students may study
according to individually structured curriculum.;The BSc curriculum is more
practically oriented and is designed to last 3.5 years (7 semesters), being
divided into two parts. The 1st period lasts 3 semesters and consists of general
subjects, i.e. mathematics, physics, mechanics, material science and computer
science as well as 20 weeks practical workshop training. This part of the
curriculum is obligatory for all students. The students select a specialisation
after completing the third semester of studies and may choose between ship
structures, ship manufacturing technology and ship power and propulsion systems
if they follow ship technology direction (semesters 4 to 6). During the 7th
semester the students have to prepare their BSc thesis and to pass final examination
to get BSc degree.;There is also a separate BSc course run simultaneously
for those who specialise in management and marketing in maritime economy.
The course has been established in close conjunction with the Faculty of Management
and Economics, which offers further 2-year postgraduate studies for those,
who wish to increase their qualifications in industrial management to MSc
level.;The postgraduate studies leading to PhD are designed according to scientific
interests of individuals. The PhD thesis can be submitted after passing three
examinations: in the main subject of the study and philosophy or economy as
well as foreign language. After the examinations and positive opinion of two
referees about the thesis, the PhD student has to defend the thesis in a public
discussion.;The admission to the MSc and BSc studies is based on a ranking
of high school certificates, without special entrance examinations. Candidates
for doctoral studies are individually assessed by the Board of Faculty. All
other forms of education are open to candidates fulfilling formal requirements
and are organized depending on a number of applicants. The BSc, MSc and PhD
studies; are free of charge, whilst the participation in other forms of education
is payable. The MSc and PhD courses in English language, which are open to
foreign students with BSc and MSc degrees respectively, are also subject to
a fee paid by individuals or their sponsors.
