1. Case Study Reports News

The first report “SUPERBS Case Studies I Sweden-Finland” was printed and already distributed among students participating in the Sustainable Development and Urban Planning courses. The authors are: Madeleine Granvik, Mia Forsberg, Per G.Berg, Gunnar Persson, Anders Bro, Tonni Tikkanen, Mikko Jokinen Matti Lankiniemi, Bjorn Gronholm and Wendelin Muller-Wille. The book is impressive, 183 pages, although in the first version illustrations are missing. The report covers the Uppsala, Hagaby, Hallefors, Turku/Abo, Enkoping and Norrtalje case studies. Lars Ryden is the editor. At present lacking illustrations are collected and a version with pictures will hopefully soon be ready. The next case study book to be prepared is “Case Studies II Poland – Germany”.

2. Superbs Seminar III

The next LATVIAN-ESTONIAN–RUSSIAN - seminar is scheduled for April 6-12, 2001. The hosts discuss the venue of it and in the draft version visits are planned to Riga, Jelgava, Livani, Tartu, Novgorod and to Sankt Petersburg in this order. The program of our travelling seminar looks very attractive. As visas are needed for all the participants of these seminar please register as soon as you can to help the hosts to organize it properly. A registration form is available here.

All non-Russians need Russian visa, while Russians need visa to Latvia and Estonia. Do not forget to include passport numbers and the date of birth!

3. News about the TV Series City 2000

The TV series City 2000 is planned to include eleven 30 min films. Up to now 10 contracts have been signed, 9 films delivered and 6 films made available in English. These are featuring Uppsala, Hagaby, Tartu, Jelgava Livani and Kaunas. It is a true pleasure to watch these films. They fill our cities with colourful, and interesting people living there. They talk about their situation, their hope for the future and how they understand and relate to the long-term goal of sustainable city life. They add flesh and blood to the case studies. We are grateful to the many TV producers for a very interesting result.

Magnus Lehman provided the films with English translation and subtitles. We are still waiting for the English versions of the Hallefors and Turku/Abo film and we are looking forward to seeing it. Students taking part in our SCD course - www.pg.gda.pl/cerso/scd - enjoy seminars based on the TV series, which together with the case studies reports constitute a perfect didactic material.
