Centre of Excellence ChemBioFarm, established in 2004 at the Faculty of Chemistry, Gdańsk University of Technology, runs educational and research in the field of medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical biotechnology especially focused on molecular aspects of chemoprevention, diagnosis and chemotherapy of infectious and neoplastic diseases

THE MAIN RESEARCH TOPICS

  • Development of new methods of diagnosis of infectious diseases, based on molecular biology techniques, including construction of immunological tests employing recombinant antigens;

  • Elaboration of the novel strategies for prevention of neoplastic and infectious diseases, especially in the field of cancer chemoprevention, as well as design and preparation of antiprotozoan vaccines;

  • Searching for novel molecular targets for antibacterial, antifungal and anticancer chemotherapy; elucidation of mechanisms of action of chemotherapeutic agents; investigation of molecular bases of bacterial pathogenicity, especially uropathogenicity;

  • Rational de novo design or modification of existing chemotherapeutic agents for the control of eukaryotic systems, especially anticancer, antifungal and antiprotozoan agents;

  • Searching for the novel strategies of overcoming multidrug resistance of pathogenic cells;

  • Design and preparation of recombinant proteins with potential application for therapy and industrial purposes;

  • Construction of safe protein-based vaccines incorporating recombinant antigens exposed in the structure of bacterial Dr-type fimbriae
